Le Mans 1966 was somewhat of a glory year for Ford. Their plan to defeat Ferrari at the famous race came to fruition when they flooded the field with no less than 13 cars! Given the attrition rate, only 15 of the 55 cars finished the race but in the top three positions... the only Ford GT40s left running! The Wire Corporation Team entered two cars, numbers 59 and 60, both unfortunately had to retire in 24th and 27th place.

New Zealand in late December 1970 then at the NZ Grand Prix meeting a week later at Pukekohe, before Rorison made a successful offer for the orange Camaro. Seasoned racing driver Dennis ‘Marbles’ Marwood took the hot seat and was a front-runner for two seasons (1970-’72). Marwood leased the car from Rorison for a second season (1971-’72) finishing third in the title chase. Marwood’s swansong with the Camaro came with a great run at Warwick Farm at the second round of the Australia versus NZ big saloon test match in August 1972 with a fine second place. The Camaro then appeared in the 1973-’74 season, now in the hands of crowd favourite, Johnny Riley. During the cars restoration, Tony sanded down the old panels and the previous racing numbers were revealed — John Riley #50, Dennis Marwood #25 and 24 and Joe Chamberlain #2.

1970 Ford Boss 302 #41 was Originally built and raced by Ed Hinchliff, a Ford Motor Company Engineer and Trans Am Racer who raced in the Trans Am series from the 1960’s to this current decade. Ed Hinchliff of Ypsilanti, MI, an experienced SCCA Trans Am Series racer and Ford Motor Company engineer, acquired this new body-in-white Sportsroof Mustang in 1970. He then built this Trans Am Boss 302 using parts, contacts, and information, from Ford Motor Company, Kar Kraft, and Bud Moore Engineering. They finished this Grabber Blue Boss 302 in time to run Road America and Watkins Glen in the 1970 SCCA Trans Am Series.

That was until Allan Moffat went out and, ignoring the puddles, ran a time six seconds faster than anyone else (while hitting 159 mph on Conrod Straight). Moffat was eventually pushed back to third and, unfortunately, the race didn’t go as planned. Allan was forced to retire on lap 81, allowing rival Peter Brock to take the victory.

In 1986, after Group B rallying was removed from the FIA regulations, Peugeot used much of their experience developing the 205 T16 for the Paris-Dakar Rally and Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Their first attempt at Pikes Peak, also known as The Race to the Clouds, was in 1987 with the diminutive 205: the car that transformed Peugeot’s commercial fortunes after it was launched in 1983 and then went on to become a legend on the world rally stage thanks to the outlandish Group B T16 version. New Zealand in late December 1970 then at the NZ Grand Prix meeting a week later at Pukekohe, before Rorison made a successful offer for the orange Camaro. Seasoned racing driver Dennis ‘Marbles’ Marwood took the hot seat and was a front-runner for two seasons (1970-’72). Marwood leased the car from Rorison for a second season (1971-’72) finishing third in the title chase. Marwood’s swansong with the Camaro came with a great run at Warwick Farm at the second round of the Australia versus NZ big saloon test match in August 1972 with a fine second place. The Camaro then appeared in the 1973-’74 season, now in the hands of crowd favourite, Johnny Riley. During the cars restoration, Tony sanded down the old panels and the previous racing numbers were revealed — John Riley #50, Dennis Marwood #25 and 24 and Joe Chamberlain #2.

1970 Ford Boss 302 #41 was Originally built and raced by Ed Hinchliff, a Ford Motor Company Engineer and Trans Am Racer who raced in the Trans Am series from the 1960’s to this current decade. Ed Hinchliff of Ypsilanti, MI, an experienced SCCA Trans Am Series racer and Ford Motor Company engineer, acquired this new body-in-white Sportsroof Mustang in 1970. He then built this Trans Am Boss 302 using parts, contacts, and information, from Ford Motor Company, Kar Kraft, and Bud Moore Engineering. They finished this Grabber Blue Boss 302 in time to run Road America and Watkins Glen in the 1970 SCCA Trans Am Series.

Race: 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000, Driver: Allan Moffat & Jacky Ickx, Pushing for more television time, the 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 saw the introduction of the Hardies Heroes Top 10 runoff for pole position. Rain in the morning meant the track was damp during the first run, which was certainly reflected in the times. That was until Allan Moffat went out and, ignoring the puddles, ran a time six seconds faster than anyone else (while hitting 159 mph on Conrod Straight). Moffat was eventually pushed back to third and, unfortunately, the race didn’t go as planned. Allan was forced to retire on lap 81, allowing rival Peter Brock to take the victory.

In the 1967 Trans Am season, Allan Mann’s win at the non-championship Watkins Glen Manufacturers Challenge in a privateer Mustang convinced Mercury, owned by Ford, competitions boss Fran Hernandez that he was capable against such drivers as Mark Donohue, Jerry Titus and Parnelli Jones. Allan successfully tested for Bud Moore Engineering who was contracted to run the Mercury race team. Team cars were painted red and silver, but in deference to Allan’s Aussie background, his Cougar was green and gold.

The 1968 British Grand Prix was held at the Brands Hatch Circuit on 20th July. Both Hill’s and Oliver’s Lotus cars claimed the front row of the grid in qualifying along with Siffert, 4th on the grid, and much was expected.

Graham Hill, in his Team Lotus Type 49 retired with a broken half-shaft on lap 26. Later, on lap 46, Jackie Oliver retired the other Team Lotus Type 49 with transmission problems. The race was won by Jo Siffert in a Rob Walker-entered Team Lotus Type 49.

José Froilán González made a notable mark in a brief career as a Formula One driver. The Argentinian secured Ferrari's very first championship win at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, in 1951. González first raced for Ferrari then Maserati, then back to Ferrari. Thereafter he raced a Formula One car in Britain only once again, in the 1956 Grand Prix at Silverstone as a guest appearance in a Vanwall.

Car - Melchester Racing, McLaren M23, Race - Tony Trimmer, Driver - 1978 British Grand Prix

England's Tony Trimmer won the Shell British Formula Three Championship and E.R. Hall Trophy in 1970. He entered six Formula One World Championship Grand Prix during 1975 to 1978. The Scalextric car represents the 1978 British Grand Prix entry of Melchester Racing. Driving the McLaren M23, he finished a superb third in the rain-soaked 1978 BRDC International Trophy non-Championship race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
Although qualifying sessions had been dry, the 40 lap race was run in torrential rain, resulting in multiple accidents and drivers spinning off. The top step of the podium was taken by Keke Rosberg. Emerson Fittipaldi was second. That year Trimmer won the British Aurora F1 Championship.

The 1969 German Grand Prix was a Formula One race held at the Nürburgring with Formula Two cars also competing by invitation. It was the seventh round of the 1969 World Championship for Drivers. Bruce McLaren, in his M7C-1 race-car, finished in an excellent 3rd place behind Jacky Ickx and Jackie Stewart. This was the last Formula One race at the Nürburgring before it was rebuilt and fitted with Armco barriers for the 1971 race.

Ecurie Bonnier was founded by Joakim Bonnier in 1969 for the purpose of entering the Formula 1 Championships with Lotus and McLaren. ‘Jo’ had enjoyed a long driving career since 1956 and had lots of experience with all the top teams as well as having run his own teams since 1966. It was in 1970 that Jo Bonnier drove a McLaren M7C under his own team in the US Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen. It was his first race behind the wheel of the McLaren M7C but he unfortunately had to retire from the race half way through due to a broken water pipe.

Held at Montjuich Circuit, the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix took place on 4th May and was the second round of the 1969 season. A famous race of high attrition and danger due to the rear wings of many of the drivers failing, causing several crashes. This led to the race being the end of the high wing era of Formula 1 racing. Jacky Ickx was in second position behind Stewart, but in the closing laps he suffered rear suspension failure and retired.

The 6th Race of Champions, run to Formula One rules, was held in March 1971 at Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, UK. The race was run over 50 laps of the circuit. Three Team Lotus Ltd cars were entered against other manufacturers such as Williams, BRM, Tyrrell, Brabham, McLaren, March and Ferrari piloted by Stewart, Surtees, Hill, Gethin, Hulme, Fittipaldi, Peterson and others. Unfortunately, the relatively unknown Tony Trimmer was to enjoy only 5 laps before his Team Lotus car expired with a broken fuel pump.

The notorious Nürburgring was the setting for round 7 of the 1969 Formula 1 season. Graham Hill and his Lotus 49 had a disappointing start to the season before arriving for round 7 and after struggling in qualifying, he managed to take his Lotus to 9th position on the grid. Eventually though, due to a series of crashes and retirements for Vic Elford, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme (who all started ahead of him), Hill managed to finish the race in 4th position, 4 minutes behind race winner Jacky Ickx.
